Longido: Water points and other resources
There are several types of community water sources that are being used by pastoralist, in the surveyed districts include gravity schemes, rivers, lakes, lambo (artificial dams), unimproved traditional/shallow wells, and improved boreholes connected into distribution points (DPs). Lambo (artificial dams) are small reservoirs that are constructed by pastoralists to store water for use during the dry season. Unimproved traditional/shallow wells are a common water source in these districts, providing water for domestic and agricultural use. Improved boreholes are wells that are drilled into the ground to access underground water, and they are often connected to distribution points (DPs) that can provide water to multiple households. Overall, these water sources have provided vital support for the livelihoods of pastoralists in these districts.
